Music scenes don’t stop at London’s city limits. The northwest of England is a mecca for fans into dancing to the best DJs the world has to offer. Here’s where to find them.
Creamfields Festival | Daresbury, England
One of the longest-running electronic dance festivals in Britain, it features eight separate sound stages and some of the top names in the dance music industry. It happens in August near Liverpool – less than a three–hour train ride from London. This year’s lineup includes well known DJs such as Above and Beyond, deadmau5 and Eats Everything.
Sub Club | Glasgow, Scotland
This Scottish basement space with a low ceiling and top-notch sound system is an institution, as is Optimo, a local duo who are the club’s founders and resident DJs. They’ve appeared on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix and toured the world, but Sub Club is where you'll find them creating an unbeatable atmosphere to party the night away.
The Full Moon Pub and Attic Bar | Bristol, England
Stokes Croft, the “arty bit” of Bristol, is home to an eclectic music policy and a variety of homegrown talent, with drum ’n’ bass maestros such as Jinx and Saxxon on the bill. Low door prices, a brilliant food menu, a great sound system and spacious outdoor courtyard make the Full Moon a worthy destination, just 90 minutes by train from London.
Gottwood Festival | Anglesey, Wales
Shaped around the electronic end of the audio spectrum, Gottwood has hosted everyone, from Bristol's ace disco crew Futureboogie to North Wales–born Tom Demac. Usually taking place the second week of June in a secluded dell in Anglesey, North Wales, this party describes itself as an “adult playground.”
